Gambling can be one of life’s greatest pleasures but it can also become one of life’s worst nightmares. If you play impulsively and cannot control your gambling habits, then what was initially entertainment becomes a burden. I’ve been playing at casinos for over 40 years now. It started shortly after I became of legal age. I’ve had my ups and downs with gambling. I’ve played more than I should have at times, and I’ve squandered away winnings that I should have taken out of the casino and enjoyed in other things. But, throughout my long history with casinos, I don’t believe I’ve had a serious gambling addiction. Some may call it a bad habit, but I know that I’ve never spent more than I could afford and it was never essential for me to play. I simply enjoy it and do it often to get the kick out of it.
A gambling addiction begins when you cannot stop playing, especially when you want to stop. If you feel you want to stop playing but you continue to do so, then that’s a sure sign you have a gaming problem. In these cases is best to get help, as it is very hard to overcome addiction by one’s own effort.
On the other hand, if you play often and have started wondering if you have a gaming problem, do one thing. Look into your wallet or bank account, and see how much money is going into casinos. If you are postponing bill payments or rent because of gambling, then it’s a problem. But if you only use a reasonable portion of your income and never go over that, then you don’ t have much of a problem. It’s the same as using the money for movies, dinners or vacations. Money is there to be spent and hopefully to get some enjoyment out of it. So don’t feel bad you’re spending money on gambling, as long as you still feel the excitement of playing.
I hope these thoughts may help you decide if you have a gambling problem or not.
